TCU Theta Run

TCU Theta Run

Sometimes, XC runners can’t get enough. This weekend, Dan Sun ‘14, Caroline Carvalho ‘14, and I ran the TCU Theta 5k, after having run an official cross country meet on Saturday in Denton.

Although it was a small race, we ended up having a lot of fun. Since there weren’t very many runners, there was no pressure to perform as well as we would at an actual meet. We jogged comfortably and finished the race in about 23 minutes.

“It was a nice recovery run from the meet we had the day before, and the weather couldn’t have been better,” Sun said.

The course wound through the Tanglewood neighborhood that hugs the TCU campus, so we passed by beautiful houses, lawns, and also a few fans that sat on their front porch watching us, coffee in hand. There were Thetas lining the entirety of the course, cheering everyone on with their enthusiasm so indicative of sorority girls.

However, the best thing about the race was the cause.

“I thought the 5k was a lot of fun, and I loved that it benefitted C.A.S.A.,” Carvalho said.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Tarrant County is an organization that seeks to help abused and battered children by providing for them a brighter future. It pulls volunteers from all over Fort Worth to assist in spreading the word about child abuse and hope to raise awareness.

After finishing the race, we went to Cafe Brazil, right off of Berry, close to the TCU bookstore, where our day got even better.

After waiting to be seated for about 15 minutes, I asked the hostess if we had been put on the list yet. She responded with a no. There seemed to be many other parties of three that morning, and Carvalho thought it would be comical if we pretended to be the Triplehorns (if you haven’t seen Date Night, go see it!). In essence, we accidentally took someone else’s reservation. Although completely unintended, it gave us all a laugh and we left the waiter an extra dollar or two for the inconvenience.

All in all, we had a really nice jog, supported a great organization located in Fort Worth, and had a delicious breakfast. Who could ask for any better?
