Every year since sixth grade: she has never taken an athletic season off. All of her interactions leave people with raving praises about her and her sportsmanship. Taylor Higgins is a current sophomore at Fort Worth Country Day.
“Taylor is the most selfless, talented, beautiful, and wholesome-hearted person I have ever met. She is always reliable and the bestest friend anyone could ask for,” junior Lindley Williams ’26 said.
Anyone asked about Higgins only ever has nice comments. She is popular and kind to every person she speaks to. Her friend circle is vast, but that does not mean she is not close to all of her peers. She somehow maintains close relationships with all her friends and manages to make everyone feel included and seen. This is just one of her many amazing qualities.
Higgins is inspired by her family in every aspect of her life. In fact, she began playing sports, which takes up a big part of her life, because of her family’s influence. Her family set the foundation of her sports career by all participating in sports. She was, like any child, driven to join her family in the sports world. She starts the year off with volleyball, an intense sport that requires focus and determination. Like everything else she does, Taylor excels at this and never fails to brighten up the court.
“She loves everyone and puts 110% into everything she does, whether it benefits herself or not,” Williams said.
After volleyball season she moves on to her favorite sport, soccer. She began playing soccer at four years old because her stepdad was coaching and her sister was playing. She has kept playing the sport because she fell in love with it. She loves the connection it has to her family, the intensity of the game, and the atmosphere of her team. She mostly plays as a defender, but sometimes also plays as an outside back. Higgins has not stopped playing soccer since she started, with multiple worn pairs of cleats to show it.
But even there her athletic year does not stop. She then quickly transfers to softball, which is a great sport to end the year with.
“I wanted to play a sport with all of my friends, and it worked out because now I love it,” Higgins said.
Southwest Preparatory Conference champions two years in a row, the FWCD softball team is amazing. The team never fails to bring energy and brightness to their games. Higgins is a big part of this, constantly checking on other players and making sure that everybody feels included. On the athletic side, she is a starter and gives her all in every aspect of the game.
Higgins also makes time for singing. Another thing influenced by her family, she has practically been singing since birth. Her mom sings all the time, so she grew up singing and dancing. There are videos of her as a baby doing choreographed dances and belting out lyrics. This has carried on into her life today.
“My parents got me singing lessons and got me a piano at each house because basically all I do is play the piano. They go to every one of my shows, like musicals and concerts, even on days they’re busy,” said Higgins.
Higgins is in musical theater. She loves all things lyrical, so naturally she brings it into her day-to-day life. Her experience in musical theater has been short yet amazing, bringing together her love of friends and dancing. She gets to do two things she loves in one class: spend time with her friends and sing her heart out. Her musical range does not end there, and she plans on joining the upcoming FWCD musical.
She excitedly prattles on about the musical “SIX,” the choice of FWCD’s spring musical. Higgins cannot wait to be a part of this project and exuberantly encourages people to sign up. She’s not sure who she wants to be, but nonetheless is practically brimming with excitement. She was in the musical last year, “Matilda Junior,” as Matilda’s friend Alice, and she loved it. It takes a lot of time outside of school, but she does not complain because the reward is being a part of something she feels passionate about.
Higgins would love to bring music and family into her future career, but she is not yet sure what she will do. She loves the ideas of real estate or something inside of the music industry. There is no rush to her decision because she has time. There is no doubt that when she does decide, she will excel in her chosen career. But for now, Higgins is sticking to her roots: family, sports, and singing.
