In just his second season, sophomore lacrosse goalie Will Hammond ’27 has already put his name into the record books, and he’s not done yet.
Hammond is the starting goalie for the Falcons, and has set both the all-conference and school records for saves in a single game, adding another achievement to an already great career.
After his freshman season, he went on to win Team MVP, District MVP, and SPC MVP. Expectations were sky high heading into 2025, and he hasn’t disappointed.
Over 15 games this season, Hammond has recorded 124 saves with a 63% save rate, keeping his team decently ranked in SPC and helping them win third place this year.
While here at Country Day, Hammond has never had a game below a 50 percent save rate.
The Falcons currently hold a 10–6 record going into the state playoffs and Captain John David Hart ’27 has believed in Hammond ever since his first game.
“Will’s been a brick wall for us and gives us a chance to win every single game,” said Hart ‘26.
Hammond’s talent was on full display in the SPC semifinals, where he had an amazing performance with 21 saves against St. Andrew’s.
Despite Hammond’s efforts, the Falcons fell in a heartbreaking 2–3 loss, making it one of the closest games of the season.
Head coach Patrick Diamonon has lots of praise for Hammond.
“The saves and performance he had really kept us in it. The defense played amazing forcing the St. andrews to take shots we knew Will could handle. Will is a steady rock for us and super reliable between the pipes,” said Diamonon.
Freshman pole Mason Alband ’28 said Hammond was a huge reason the Falcons were able to keep the game close.
“He stood on business that game and we were right there because of him,” said Alband ‘28, “He gave us everything he had.”
With a state title on the line, all eyes are on the Falcons once again and how Hammond will help lead the team into the postseason.
The Falcons will traveled to Houston to play Lamar at Concordia High School on May 3rd and came out with a 8-7 victory.
