My favorite thing to do in my free time is traditional retail therapy. But I, an unemployed minor, need to do this on a cheaper scale. Naturally, the best thing to do is go thrift shopping.
I went to three different thrift stores to see which one is best. I will judge them based on four categories: customer service, cleanliness, overall prices, and quality of merchandise.
The first store I went to was Indy Clover on Overton Ridge Boulevard. I found this store when researching on TikTok. This store is different from most thrift stores. They have 80 sections called “booths.” Each Saturday, they have 80 different people who sign up to set up their booth, and they get to take home anything left at the end of the week. Each section was very different from the other. They were very organized and had very different personalities. Each item is priced by the person who brought it in, not by the store. Therefore, the prices varied. There was only one employee in the store, but he was so sweet. He did his rounds through the store and checked up on each customer. Everything I got was in good condition. I got a pair of black Nike Air Forces, a Shein tank top, Lululemon joggers, and a blue wallet with daisies. The original price of each of these items without taxes would be $125, $6.39, $59, and $13.99. I got them for $30, $5, $20, and $10. Everything was in good condition and had a reasonable price. I love this store so much and would like to go again. I give it a 10/10.
The second store I went to was Goodwill North Central Texas on Camp Bowie Boulevard. It was very simple, just like every other Goodwill store. The store was clean, and all the clothes were organized by article of clothing. I got a pair of Nike sweatpants. On the plus side, they were $6.27 for what would be $60. They were in good condition and didn’t show any signs of damage. The employees were nice. They didn’t go around checking up on customers, but were still very helpful. I came here towards the beginning of the school year to find clothes for the dress-up days. If you’re trying to find clothes for events like that or for projects, Goodwill is a good place to go. There is a wide variety of options at a cheap price. Goodwill gets a 10/10.
The final thrift store was 2nd Street on Foch St. I personally love this store. The clothes are organized by aesthetic, the workers are always kind, and almost everything in the store is $5.00. I say almost because 2nd Street also carries vintage luxury items. These items are much more expensive but are still in amazing condition. I bought two T-shirts, a pair of black jeans, and a pair of shorts. 2nd Street has always been one of my favorite thrift stores. I always find something new going into this store. Absolutely 10/10.
Each of these stores got a 10/10. So, how do we know which store is the best one? I have decided that it really is about what each store has to offer. Indy Clover gives you a peek into different people’s wardrobes. This helps a shopper piece together their own fashion sense by pulling together things from different vibes and styles. In Goodwill, it does take a while to find clothing when searching article by article of clothing but it’s very rewarding when you find treasures. 2nd Street offers clothing based on aesthetics. This is a great starting place when you don’t have a full idea of what your style is. Looking through each section gives you an idea of what you like. These stores are amazing, and I do recommend that you pay a visit. You never know what you’re going to find.
