Spanish Club
October 21, 2014
Looking for a fun and festive way to practice Spanish while receiving extra credit? Then join Spanish Club. Spanish Club meets once a month in Mrs. Robinson’s room. Alex Doswell and Margot Berry created Spanish Club to immerse kids in the culture and language of Spanish. Activities include chatting in Spanish with friends, playing hangman or Adivina Quién (Guess Who), watching movies, listening to popular Spanish music, and eating chips and salsa. Most members of the Spanish Club have taken Spanish as their foreign language, but some French students attend the meetings, interested in getting involved with multiple languages. During the next meeting in October, the members will build an altar, which will hang in the commons for the rest of October, in celebration of Día de Los Muertos.
Día de Los Muertos is a Spanish holiday celebrated on November 1. Food, drinks, parties, and various activities are performed to celebrate the lives of the deceased, who awaken and enjoy the party with the living. Skeletons and skulls are often worn to represent and honor the dead. The next Spanish Club meeting is on October 22nd.
