After the rollercoaster ride that was the 2014 season came to an abrupt end last weekend, it’s time that we consider just how much the last five months have given us, the fans. How much the Dallas Cowboys gave us. They gave us an NFL rushing champion. Franchise records. A league leader in receiving touchdowns. Five All-Pro players. 12 wins. A division championship. And while the journey has come to a premature end, the silver and blue can hold their heads high and take pride in having accomplished something truly great. This team delivered the league’s proudest franchise from the doldrums of 8-8 back to championship contention, and reminded us what it feels like to be winners. They showed us what it means to compete, and how to #ThrowUpTheX. They proved that they have what it takes to finish the fight. One player can’t accomplish these things alone. It takes a group of dedicated individuals working together to achieve a common goal. These individuals are many, but the most distinguished include Tony Romo, the toughest quarterback in the league who played professional football with a broken back; Dez Bryant, the most passionate player in football; the five offensive linemen who dominate the trenches. And while the defense lacked “big names,” they played the entire season with a chip on their shoulder. They accomplished great things this season, but the Dallas Cowboys are not done yet. 2014 showed flashes of the 1990’s dynasty, and the Triplets seemed to be reincarnated in Bryant, Romo and Murray. These flashes made for a magical season, but they aren’t enough. The fans will not be satisfied until there is another ring to the franchise’s name. These Cowboys can give us that.
