Once again, the Fort Worth weather forecast is calling for sleet and snow, and once again, FWCD must decide whether or not school will be in session tomorrow. Below is FWCD’s routine process for determining if school will be cancelled due to inclement weather as described by Assistant Head of School Steve Stackhouse:

Before 5:00am – Stackhouse and Head of School Evan Peterson drive around their respective neighborhoods to gain a general idea of the conditions of the roads.

Around 5:00am – Stackhouse calls Clovis Murphree of Plant Operations, who travels to FWCD from Burleson, and Grounds Supervisor Denver Edmunds, who travels to campus from Azle, to find out the condition of the roads in each of these drives. Stackhouse also communicates with Nolan Hightower of Plant Operations, who is in charge of transportation to FWCD, and asks if he is comfortable driving the busses given the current weather and road conditions. Either Manager of Security Craig Slayton or Peterson normally communicate with contacts at Trinity Valley School and Southwest Christian to see what their decision is regarding school cancellation.

Around 5:15am – Murphee normally arrives on campus and begins to monitor the local highways through city webcams. He communicates the condition of both the campus and the local highways to Stackhouse.

No Later than 5:30am – Stackhouse will call Peterson to make the decision on whether or not to cancel school. Peterson makes the final decision.

5:30am to 6:00am Stackhouse will communicate his final decision to Director of Technology Steve Uhr, who will set up the automatic phone and text notifications with the school’s decision, and to Communications Director Shannon Allen, who will post a notification on FWCD’s social media accounts and the school website.

Around 6am – We find out if there will be school.
