16 Questions with the Class of 2016: Margot Berry

What is your Snapchat score and who is your best friend on Snapchat?

Although I use Snapchat as my main form of communication, my score is only 42,862, which isn’t much compared to some of my friends. My best friend is Mary Catherine Bishop ’16.

Where do you want to go to college?

Right now, I’m between The University of Texas and Vanderbilt University. My mom went to Texas, and my dad went to Vandy, so I guess my choices run in the family.

What is your favorite TV show?

I watch “The Voice” on NBC religiously. It’s my favorite show, and I never miss an episode. I wish I could sing, so I think that’s why I love it so much. Adam Levine is my favorite judge.

What are you listening to right now?

“Infinity” by One Direction. It just recently came out. I love 1D. I’ve seen them four times in concert, and got to meet them at the most recent one this past summer. I seriously think Harry Styles is my soulmate.

What is your favorite sport?

Field hockey is definitely my favorite sport, but I play tennis and soccer, too. I’m one of three captains of the varsity team.

How many siblings do you have?

I have three siblings: Sam Berry ’14, who is now at University of Georgia; Meredith Berry ’17, who is a sophomore; and Chas Berry ’19. It’s been really fun because I’ve gotten to be in high school at the same time as all of my siblings, which is really special.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

Crested Butte, Colorado. My aunt has a house there, and we go every year the day after Christmas and stay until New Year’s Day. I love to ski, so it’s more fun to go in the winter, but I do like to go in the summer, too.

What’s your favorite school subject?

That’s tough. I love Spanish, but I really, really like math. There’s just something about a good math problem that gives me a challenge that really gets me going. This year, I’m in AP BC Calculus, which is a really interesting class. Mr. Quinn is also an awesome teacher so that makes it a lot of fun.

How many pets do you have?

I have three dogs, two mini-yorkis and one King Charles Spaniel. Coco and Simon are the yorkis, and Ruby is the King Charles Spaniel. We named Ruby, Ruby because of the color of her pelt, Coco because she looks kind of like hot chocolate, and Simon after Simon Cowell, who discovered One Direction.

Who is your oldest friend?

Alex Doswell ’16. We’ve been best friends since the day I was born. She was 28 days old, and her mom brought her to the hospital to meet me. Our moms have been best friends since they were little girls, so it’s pretty cool that we’re best friends, too.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Australia, Spain and South Africa are my top three. I would love to travel abroad in Spain during college.

Where do you usually go for off-campus lunch, and what do you get?

If I have enough time, I’ll go to Central Market. I love their café. I usually get a salad, which I customize myself. In it, I put spinach, edamame, carrots, hard boiled egg, feta cheese, grilled cheese, and I top it off which a vinaigrette.

What’s your guilty pleasure food?

I love cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream. My favorite brand is Bluebell, but since the listeria scare, I’ve usually gone to Braums and gotten their kind to cure my craving.

What is one of your hobbies?

I take photography at school, so I would say it’s one of my hobbies. Photographing people is my favorite, but landscape is fun, too. Last year, I won an Association of Texas Photography Instructors award, which was really exciting.

What’s next on your bucket list?

Skydiving is next on my bucket list. I’ve always wanted to do it, and now that I’m 18 I have no excuses not to.

What is your favorite memory at FWCD?

I’ve been at Country Day since kindergarten, so I have a lot of memories. My favorite is probably Big Bend, but rice babies in first grade is a close second.
