Short Film: “Don’t Trust the Tap Water”
December 5, 2016
The protagonist, Eragon, is trapped inside the paradoxical ambiguity of the dreamlike universe which includes, but is not limited to, a high school hallway or a restroom. The universe itself is self-explanatory in its meaning by various, generally accepted, archetypal symbols and meanings. The short display of the “running wolf” itself has a much deeper meaning. The wolf is an allegorical figure which can be interpreted biblically, secularly, and/or metaphysically. The wolf itself is but only a single allusion seen throughout “Don’t Trust the Tap Water.”
“Don’t Trust the Tap Water” leads the viewer to uncover more about one’s mind, body, and even entire existence. Let this short film take you on a complex journey that has the potential to transform your present perspective on human life. Let the ebbs and flows of the soothing and thought-provoking tunes wash over you with its unexpected transitions and sporadic genre choices.
The entire creative short film itself is a deeper and less superficial reality than the typical viewer may interpret it as. The film embodies a feeling of ominous confusion that leads to questions which, in result, lead to more questions. These questions could often even explain the present universe you and I live in today and open one’s eyes to the arbitrary philosophical meaning of our entire existence as a whole.
“We didn’t want to hold [the viewers’] hands,” Jackson Norman, the director and editor said. “They need to figure it out on their own.”
