BCS Bowl Predictions: Week 14
BCS National Championship
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida State Seminoles
When you picture a dream National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl, this matchup doesn’t miss the imagination by very much. It’s a Heisman front runner vs. the two time defending champs. It’s a game between two of the most storied programs in college football history: Crimson Tide vs. Seminoles. It should give any passionate college football fan chills. What a way for the BCS to go out, with the two most dominant teams in the country. I could not be more excited for this one. How about an upset to go with the BCS finale.
Final Score: Florida State 24 Alabama 17
Rose Bowl
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
Well, Ohio State will get what it hoped for in a plane ticket to Pasadena, but it won’t exactly be for the game they wished, as this is not the national title game. The other opponent will be a real surprise. The Pac 12 championship game has been set as Arizona State won the South Division and Stanford won the North division. Many people will be shocked to hear this, but if ASU takes care of business against Arizona this weekend, they will host the title game in Tempe because they have one conference loss to Stanford’s two. Shockingly, I’m picking the upset in that game and going with the Sun Devils. They put up 62 points on the team Stanford lost to just two weeks ago in Southern Cal. Stanford could only muster 17 against the Trojans. At home, the Sun Devils will best the Cardinal in a game of offense. The winner of the Pac 12 earns a spot in the Rose Bowl, per tradition. As for the Rose Bowl game, these two high octane offenses will score some points. But which offense run out of gas first? I think Ohio State’s.
Arizona State Sun Devils 42 Ohio State Buckeyes 38
Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Northern Illinois Huskies
This’ll be a fun one down in the desert. Two teams that haven’t ever played each other will get to square off in Glendale. Jordan Lynch, quarterback for the Huskies, is arguably the best player in the country as he has 2457 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns to go along with 1755 yards rushing and 20 rushing touchdowns. Oklahoma State is not a team to be taken lightly, as they pantsed then-undefeated number four Baylor in nationally televised game 49-17. However, I think Jordan Lynch will be too much, as the Huskies bust into the BCS and pound their way to a Fiesta Bowl win.
Northern Illinois Huskies 38 Oklahoma State Cowboys 31
Sugar Bowl
Missouri Tigers vs. UCF Knights
Missouri will win out the rest of the season (hopefully) and outlast Auburn for the SEC’s second BCS spot. UCF will get a BCS Bowl because the rules say they have to have one, as they are in an automatic BCS qualifying conference, the American Athletic Conference (formerly known as the Big East) . If Missouri isn’t careful, this one could have shades of Louisville’s destruction of Florida last year. However, I think Gary Pinkel’s team will come in more humble and level headed than Will Muschamp’s cocky Gators did last year and will beat the Knights the way a team like UCF deserves to be beat by an SEC team.
Missouri 35 UCF 14
Orange Bowl
Clemson Tigers vs. Fresno State Bulldogs
Lots of points. Lots of offense. Two very under appreciated teams. Two great quarterbacks in Tajh Boyd, the ACC all time passing touchdown leader, and Derek Carr of Fresno State. Clemson comes ready to play in bowl games under Dabo Swinney and Fresno State is going to come out hyped just to have the opportunity to play for a game as big as the Orange Bowl.
Fresno State will play in this game because of the BCS rule which states: if a team in a non-AQ conference is ranked 16th or higher and wins their conference, they must be in a BCS bowl.
I think the Bulldogs will come out and shock the world just like their baseball team did in 2008.
Fresno State Bulldogs 27 Clemson Tigers 24

Note to Nick Saban: you might not want to try for a field goal from that far out. You’ll mess up the entire bowl picture. Seriously, how soon until the major college programs start putting more care into their special teams? Offense puts fans in the seats, defense wins championships, but special teams make the difference. What 20 year old kid wants to try a field goal that most NFL kickers miss most of the time, on national TV, with the pressure of being the one guy who keeps alive the dream of three consecutive national championships?
