Kamala Harris and Tim Walz created a game mode in Fortnite before the election. The game is called Freedom Town, USA and tells people to fight for freedom. The Fortnite map opened on October 28.
The game mode is about going through tasks and obstacles to get equipment to build a house. There are four tasks you have to do before building a house. The point of the game is to make the tasks easy and show how housing would be easier for people if Harris were elected. It also consists of parkour, buildings, and other challenges for players.
Donald Trump tried another way to get younger voters by going on to a live stream with a famous streamer named Adian Ross. The livestream was hosted on Kick, and at its peak the stream had over 580,000 viewers. According to Fortnite GG, which tracks popularity of games, there was a 24-hour peak of 383 players in the Harris game.
Also according to Fortnite GG, on election day there were 66 players using the Fortnite map. The average age of Fortnite players ranged from 10-25 years old. More than 60% of Fortnite players are 18-24 years old, even though many players will lie about being 18 years or older to get access to Fortnite.
When I logged into Fortnite, I opened the Kamala Fortnite map and made the game public to see if there were other players. When I entered the game, there were no other players. After a couple of minutes I looked up on social media what to do. The game was not very interesting to me because the game was not very engaging. In my opinion, the game focused more on the Harris-Walz campaign and what they will do and less on trying to entertain the users.
The game did not contain any guns or other weapons, which caused a lack of engagement. It was not your normal Battle Royale because the game was very boring and there was no entertainment in the game. This caused the game to feel different from Fortnite and less like you were playing real people, which also led to less appeal of Harris’ Fortnite map and criticism on social media. The map was not interactive with other players and caused me to get bored very quickly.
On social media people were also saying how boring it is and they should use guns. After 15 minutes of playing, I was ready to leave. The game lagged, and it did not register each task. I think I would have rather watched Donald Trump than played the Fortnite map.
