Six Flags is a well known amusement park famous for its thrilling roller coasters. There are many Six Flags amusement parks throughout the United States, as well as some in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Canada. In Arlington, Texas, Six Flags over Texas is developing a new ride: the Tormenta Rampaging Run. Tormenta Rampaging Run has not been released yet, but it is said to be released August 1, 2026–Six Flags’ 65th anniversary.
Tormenta Rampaging Run is a record-breaking giga coaster. There are three types of roller coasters: a strata coaster, hyper coaster, and giga coaster. A strata coaster is a rollercoaster that is above 400ft tall, a giga coaster is a rollercoaster that ranges from 300 to around 400ft tall, while a hyper coaster ranges from 200 to around 300ft tall. Tormenta Rampaging Run stands at a staggering 309ft tall. For reference, The Titan–Six Flags Over Texas’s current tallest ride–stands at 245ft tall, making it a hyper coaster.
Tormenta Rampaging Run isn’t just a giga coaster, but it is also a dive coaster, making it the world’s first giga dive coaster. A dive coaster is a type of roller coaster manufactured by Bolligard and Mabillard, the same developers that made the Tormenta. A dive coaster comes to a stop before the major drop, similar to the Titan, but it has a very steep drop. The Tormenta has a 95-degree drop and a wider seating range, which are characteristics of a dive coaster.
Tormenta Rampaging Run breaks a stupendous six world records. It is the tallest, longest, and fastest dive coaster, reaching speeds of 87mph and covering a staggering 4,199 ft. As far as its 95 degree drop, it stands as the tallest dive coaster with that steep of a drop. Additionally, Tormenta Rampaging Run has the highest Immelman inversion at 218ft. An Immelman inversion is a 180-degree loop that causes the riders to be in an inverted position, which would be the first of its kind at Six Flags Over Texas. For reference, the top of the loop on Tormenta Rampaging Run at 189ft is taller than the peak of the Texas Giant, the 5th tallest ride at Six Flags.
Many FWCD students are thrilled to attend this ride when it comes out.
“I’ve been to Six Flags over three times, and my favorite ride is The Freeze, but I’m excited to go on the Tormenta when it releases. I’ve seen videos of the ride all over social media, which has just built my eagerness to ride it,” James Hanson ’28 said.
Some students are more excited than others.
“Six Flags is one of my favorite places on Earth! I really like the Titan because of its drops and turns. The one thing I don’t like about Six Flags is how long the lines can get. I’ve waited for hours for one ride, and I can’t imagine how long the line is going to be for the Tormenta,” Max Kuperman ’28 said.
However, some students are a little skeptical of Six Flag’s new ride.
“I’ve been to Six Flags a couple of times, but it’s not for me. I don’t trust the rides, especially the Texas Giant since it is made out of wood,” Mateo Hatcher ‘28 said.
Right now, tickets cost around $40, but it might change once Tormenta is released.
It is safe to say that Tormenta Rampaging Run will be a very popular attraction for FWCD students and other roller coaster enthusiasts.
