An Up and Coming Voice in Music

A sassy style including pop rock and a little spark of alternative started to blare on U.S. speakers this year. Dua Lipa, a U.K. singer, became famous for her song ‘New Rules’ and has been on the radio ever since.

In an interview with MusicFeeds in 2016, Dua Lipa talked about getting into the music scene.

“It’s pretty crazy and it’s pretty surreal. I mean just the fact that I get to come all the way to the other side of the world …  is pretty surreal and to hear myself on the radio … and to be able to meet fans all the way from here is crazy to me. It’s really special,” Lipa said.

Lipa gave some insight on her first album, saying the nervousness she had about the reaction she was going to receive.

“It’s crazy because people just kind of see the finished product. Whereas I’ve been working on this album for like a year and a half now and it’s all just been a bit crazy and you never really know what the reaction is going to be when you first start releasing some music. It’s just really really nice to finally get it out there and see what people think of everything,” Lipa said.

Lipa talked about how her songs evolve during the process of writing them and hopefully improving them.

“So many of the songs just kind of start off just being like piano and a kick drum like literally nothing behind it and the productions and ideas, they all kind of change … throughout the whole process. It’s nice to see them evolve and nice to see in a way get better,” Lipa said.

Lipa said her inspiration for the album was to throw different genres into a melting pot.

“When I started I had no idea what it was going to be, apart from the fact that I really wanted [to throw] in so many different genres and put them together but it was like the two things I love the most and somehow trying to figure out a way to make it work,” Lipa said.

Lipa wants to be totally content with her first album and when it’s released does not want to think of ways she could have improved it. She does not know where she will be in in ten years but hopes she is still doing what she loves which is making music.
