Hunter McGee ’27 is always on the golf course working to perfect his craft.
McGee started playing when he was eight years old. His family just bought a new house, and he could see there was a course within walking distance.
“It seemed fun to learn at that moment,” McGee said. “Once I learned, I loved the game and haven’t stopped.”
The activity that seemed interesting turned out to be a lifelong passion McGee wants to pursue. He continues to practice almost every day.
“Sometimes I feel like quitting. It’s hard and a frustrating sport; you’ll have your good days and bad,” McGee said
McGee has managed to bring home some hardware. Last season, the Falcon golf team won the SPC championship, which was one of the many accomplishments the team received that year.
Hunter played not too badly, shooting 89,91 in the two days that they competed. He individually placed 23rd out of 35 to help the team bring home the win.
McGee will never forget that moment, especially the people it was with. One of those people was a graduating senior, Mason Harper ‘25. Harper was a team captain and just an overall good friend to McGee.
“He was an amazing friend but an even better captain,” McGee said. “We practiced every day, and he would help us improve as much as we could each day.”
Harper went on to play golf at Dort University, and they are still close.
McGee knows that golf takes much of his free time, so when he does have some free time, he spends it with friends and watching television. His favorite show right now is “Breaking Bad.”
Moving into his senior year, McGee knows he’s running out of time, and when asked, “What do you want people to remember about you?”
“I want people to remember me as being nice and an easy person to talk to or even make a new friend,” McGee said.
McGee is not the only person to think this. Long-time friend Cooper King ’27 had this to say.
“Hunter is a great guy who will go out of his way to make sure someone is okay, no matter the situation, and he’s done that many times for me,” who said?
McGee’s goal isn’t stacking trophies or having a crazy sports legacy. He wants to be the best person he can be, and those are leadership qualities.
