Fort Worth Country Day has been lucky enough to hire some of the most talented and qualified coaches and teachers. All of their programs are led by engaging and passionate individuals who truly live for their sport. Yet, their involvement and interests revolve around so much more than their team’s success: it’s determined by the growth and personal development within each of their student-athletes.
These faculty members have not only invested their time and energy into their athletic programs, but also their heart and soul into creating a nurturing environment. In the classroom or on the court, track or sidelines, they all embody the meaning of being a coach, according to Tom Landry; “A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, who has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be.”
When interviewed, many of them emphasized the importance of having a strong mindset and drive to succeed. These traits have contributed to their personal success in their respective sports, but the highlighting factor in their success as coaches was patience. They discussed teaching athletes to handle pressure and mistakes, drawing on their own experience.
Once aspiring student athletes, all of these individuals had coaches that showed them their own potential and molded them into well-rounded people, both as a competitor and as a person. They kept these lessons with them as they grew, later implementing their advice into their own coaching philosophies.
