“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” released in late 2013, is an adventure and comedy movie that follows the life of Walter Mitty. It’s an action/comedy movie with lots of action and funny moments. You can see Mitty jump out of a helicopter into the ocean while also seeing how his daydreams contrast from reality.
At first, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) worked for Life Magazine. He lives alone and constantly daydreams. He has a crush on his coworker, Cheryl Melhoff (Kristen Wiig). In order to get closer to Cheryl, Mitty joins an app called eHarmony. When setting up the app, a man who works on customer service calls Mitty to help him fill out interesting things about himself. Mitty realizes that he hasn’t done too many interesting things with his life.
For his job, Mitty works with a popular journalist, Sean O’Connel (Sean Penn). When receiving the role of photos and a gift of a wallet from O’Connel, Walter realizes that the last photo, #25, is missing. O’Connel emphasizes its importance and says that it should be the cover of the last issue of Life Magazine.
When Mitty’s rude manager, Ted Hendricks (Adam Scott), asks Mitty where the photo is, he lies, saying that it is still not sent. This leads Mitty to go on a search to find O’Connel and save his job. He uses the other photos in the roll that O’Connel had sent him for clues in order to find him. After observing one of the photos, he sees a ship that could be found in Greenland and hurries there.
Mitty uses the clues to go on an adventure from one interesting place to another. As Mitty travels, he begins to be able to fill out his eHarmony profile as his adventure leads him to do lots of adventurous things.
Mitty steps out of his comfort zone and takes risks that cause him to be himself rather than the lonely guy that works a job he doesn’t like and is bullied by his manager for his daydreaming.
By going on his adventures, Mitty doesn’t just daydream: he puts his dreams into action.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is available on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
The movie has amazing cinematography as Walter travels to Greenland, Iceland, and the Himalayas, as well as many other places.
The ending is great as Mitty is truly himself and gets what he always wanted.
