Watching “Interstellar” for the first time is one of the best decisions I made. The movie just had this wow factor to it from pictures, immersive music and the deep meaning behind it. “Interstellar” is directed by Christopher Nolan and is his best movie he has ever made. The main character is Cooper who has a very tight bond with his daughter Murph and son Tom.
The story takes place on an Earth further in time where the government doesn’t exist anymore and time is running out for people and Earth in general. Every day there are these dust storms that have taken place hurting the lungs of everyone. Cooper (Played by Matthew McConaughey) is a farmer who was a former pilot for the government.
Cooper was selected to be a part of a group of astronauts who secretly find hope for people on earth and their futures. This group of four astronauts had to leave their families and didn’t have an exact time for when they would come back. Once Cooper leaves his daughter Murph (played by Jessica Chastain), she couldn’t forgive him and she carries that with her for almost all her life.
Once in space and after all calculations are done they figure out that once they enter that black hole every hour is seven years on Earth, meaning Cooper would miss Murph and Tom’s childhood; by then Cooper and his kids are the same age.
When watching you wouldn’t think so much science and math is involved that real world astronauts and scientists use. Even though I didn’t understand a lot of the logistics that went into it, it was an immersive movie that keeps the reader engaged.
Once through the black hole they had a tough decision to make; they were only allowed to visit two of the three planets but had no real way of deciding which is right. One planet was full of water with constant tsunamis, another was filled with frozen ice and mountains; you can tell how much work went into making the planet surfaces look realistic, which engaged the viewer
This movie just had me constantly thinking about what was going to happen or even if this could happen in the future. The relationship between Murph and Cooper pulls on your heart strings causing me to feel bad for Murph, especially the iconic line where Cooper shouts back to Murph, saying “Don’t let me leave Murph, please don’t let me leave.” This line just breaks you a little and makes you feel sad for the both of them.
After watching it I was still mesmerized with all the thought that went into it and after a few minutes I was thinking, “What’s the reason behind this movie?” It’s that people take time for granted and we need to cherish every moment we have with each other because we have no clue when it will be the next time we will see each other.
