While moseying around the Clearfork Saturday market this November, I spotted (with my eagle eye) a heap of cookies sitting idle–but ready for the taking–at one vendor’s booth. Knowing what must be done, I quickly contacted the source of the treats, FW Cookie Gal, who ever-so-kindly prepared a box of delicious cookies for my class to sample and review.
I knew little of what to expect and therefore gathered information from the Cookie Gal’s website and Instagram account before acquiring her creations. But soon, on an otherwise-normal Wednesday morning, I stopped by 3520 Bluebonnet Circle on my way to school and picked up a beautiful box of treats.
In said box were seven cookies, each of which I shall review below:
Ferrero Rocher – 8.5/10
This cookie was the first I tried, but rest assured, I came back later for more. It was delicious with a very sweet, chocolatey flavor that tasted just like a Ferrero Rocher candy–one of which was placed atop the cookie, both for decoration and taste.
Sticky Toffee Pudding – 7/10
This cookie was delicious and tasted just like molasses and sticky toffee pudding (believe it or not!). The consistency was very moist and slightly different than I am accustomed to whilst enjoying my cookies, but in a very nice, almost-sugary way.
Xmas Tree Shortbread – 6.5/10
This cookie was lovely and very good. The only reason I shied away from rating it higher is that the shortbread’s simple flavor didn’t compare to that of the other cookies (e.g. Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ferrero Rocher), but it was still very good, and I loved the tree decoration.
White Chocolate Red Velvet – 9.5/10
I loved this cookie. It was very sweet and had a perfect consistency, though it didn’t taste much like red velvet (which I didn’t mind). The flavor was perfect, and it looked almost as delicious as it was, which is always a bonus.
Maraschino Cherry Shortbread – 7/10
This was a very interesting concept for a cookie. Not once in my life have I seen a maraschino cherry and thought, “Hmm, I wonder what that would taste like in a cookie,” but clearly I’ve been too shallow-minded. The flavor was sweet and unexpectedly-delicious, and my dear friend rated it a 8.5/10, highlighting its “delightful textures” and taste that was “just sweet enough.”
Little Deb Tree Cake – 10/10
The Little Deb Tree Cake cookie was my favorite. It was dusted in a layer of edible glitter that made its presentation just as enjoyable as its taste. The flavor was delectable and sweet with a perfectly-moist consistency.
Overall, the cookies were delicious–and trust me, I take cookies VERY seriously. But I must say, one facet of a cookie-eating experience often overlooked is the presentation. Not only did these cookies possess flavors and consistencies worthy of commendation, but they were also presented beautifully. Multiple cookies were dusted with edible glitter, which made me feel even more connected to the holiday spirit…if that’s even possible. The tree shortbread cookie was so cute, and the other cookies were thick and chunky, which only added to their appeal.
My class split each cookie in multiple pieces to share among our 16 members, and every piece was gone in a blink, a big thanks to me.
If you find yourself looking for something sweet to cheer you up this holiday season, you can purchase FW Cookie Gal’s mini, medium, or large “All I Want” box for $25, $47, and $88, respectively. Each includes treats such as homemade marshmallows, fudge, salted toffee pecan chocolate bark, brown sugar brownies, assorted cookies, and gingersnap cookie sandwiches.
Pecan pie cheesecake, sugar cookie cheesecake, tiramisu cheesecake, and custom treat boxes are available for order, and the Cookie Gal does, in fact, cater for larger groups.
She also holds periodic “Porch Pop Ups” in North Fort Worth from 7:30am-6:00pm (or ‘til sellout), as well as Santa’s Cookie Baking classes for kids, where participants make 12-14 cookies worth of their own cookie dough.
The movie “Elf” claims that “the best way to spread holiday cheer is by singing loud for all to hear.” I demur, however, that singing (while enjoyable at times) does not suit everyone’s fancy and, on the contrary, often makes some people uncomfortable. Instead, one should swing on over to Bluebonnet Circle on Wednesdays from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm or Friday from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm and pick up a box of treats from Fort Worth Cookie Gal that are guaranteed to make everyone happy. (And as a nice bonus, they will like you very, very much.)
