2026 Spring SPC brought many challenges – the weather called for almost all competition to be canceled on Friday, tournaments were cut in half or squeezed into one day, and lots of mental energy was exerted with all the changes going on. However, the FWCD athletes still managed to succeed in many ways.
Head of the Athletic Department, Leigh Block, praised student-athletes for their hard work and perseverance throughout the season. He noted that while Spring is a hard time for sports teams to get into a rhythm, FWCD athletes do an amazing job in navigating everything.
“I’m proud of them all,” Block said. “I’m grateful they all competed to the end.”
Upper School Head, Abby Abbott, agreed. She applauded them for their grit and school spirit, acknowledging that attendance is so incredibly crucial in athletics.
“The crowd can be electric,” Abbott said. “I think the players really respond to that.”
Both Block and Abbott could not think of a single favorite memory they had from the season. They mentioned so many standout moments in each of the sports.
Abbott loves the idea of overnight tournaments because she thinks so many core memories are able to be formed during these. It is fun for her to see students interacting with each other in hotel lobbies and at dinners.
“Friendship, that’s a highlight for me,” Abbott said. “Beyond just seeing you excel on the field or the track or the pitch or the court or even on stage, it’s watching the bonds that you create with each other and how much fun you have doing it.”
It is evident that both Block and Abbott really admire the sports at FWCD. They complimented the school’s sportsmanship, determination, attitude, and hard work. They encourage students and teachers to continue to attend games and support all of the school’s athletes and programs.
Below is a recap of each of FWCD’s Spring sports seasons.
