Girls Volleyball Program Has A New JV Coach

Impactful coaches come in all sizes and Coach Julisa Garcia is no different. Having only been a Falcon since this summer, Garcia is quickly making her mark on the Girls Volleyball Program.

Garcia joined the US Girl’s Volleyball Program as the Junior Varsity Head Coach over the summer. Garcia began coaching club volleyball at Texas Image a year ago, where she met Akia Warrior, US Girls Volleyball Program Director. Warrior brought up the idea of Garcia coaching at FWCD during the summer, and Garcia has been here ever since.

“I have always wanted to coach at a school, and when Akia approached me about coaching at Country Day, I was very excited,” Garcia said.

Garcia has a lot of volleyball experience and expertise from her time playing in high school, college, and coaching various teams before Texas Image. She played volleyball in college at the University of Puerto Rico Aguadilla for one year before moving to the semi-professional league. Garcia started as an outside hitter and then became a libero and DS (defensive specialist). In volleyball, the hitters score the majority of the points, and the libero and DS are the positions responsible for defending the opposing team’s attacks.

This year of coaching at FWCD will be Garcia’s tenth year to coach overall, and she is enjoying it very much.

“I definitely love the girls, coaching, and the environment here,” Garcia said.

As well as coaching at Country Day, Garcia also works at Charles-Schwab as a project manager for the retirement service.

Evie Blan ’27 is a freshman at FWCD and is playing under Garcia on the JV team. She has played volleyball at FWCD since seventh grade. Blan loves playing volleyball because it is such a team sport, and it is really exciting. She has loved playing for Garcia so far this season.

“During practice Coach Garcia is really fun, and she always makes sure that we are doing the drill right. Although she is really hard on us, she also laughs with us and we have a lot of fun,” Blan said.

Trinity Marroquin ’26 is a sophomore and also plays for Garcia on the JV team. This is Marroquin’s first year here after attending Dallas International School for 12 years. Marroquin has played volleyball for two years now as an outside hitter, and she is very happy that she was able to learn from Garcia this year.

“I love playing for Coach Garcia because she is a tough coach but she is also very encouraging. She is always helping us to get better, and I am very grateful for her being here,” Marroquin said.

Garcia is looking forward to ending the season strong.

Hi I’m Reagan, and I have been at FWCD since Kindergarten. Now I am a senior at the ripe age of 17. I have been in journalism for two years, and I love the people in it and my teacher, Mrs. Wallace. My sports are volleyball, basketball, and softball, but softball with always be my favorite. I love to dress out in blue because it’s my favorite color, but I will tolerate purple and gold for LSU, my dream college.
