Whoever wins the Big Ten Championship, Ohio State or Indiana, will decide the winner of the Heisman Trophy.
Both teams’ quarterbacks are the two front runners for the trophy. The Ohio State Buckeyes will beat the Indiana Hoosiers. This win will help Julian Sayin, the sophomore quarterback for Ohio State, secure his spot to win the Heisman. Sayin has helped lead Ohio State to an undefeated season and the #1 ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll. Sayin has thrown for 3,065 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and just 5 interceptions in 12 games this season. Sayin also helped Ohio State snap Michigan’s 4-game winning streak against Ohio State.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., the Big Ten Championship is being played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana, with #1 Ohio State versus #2 Indiana, which is arguably the biggest game of the season so far.
The two other front runners in the Heisman voting are Fernando Mendoza, who is the quarterback for the Indiana Hoosiers and Jacob Rodriguez, who is a linebacker for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Both players have performed amazingly and have helped carry their teams to top rankings this season.
Mendoza is a junior quarterback, who transferred from California after playing for the Golden Bears for two seasons. He has passed for 2,758 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 12 games this season. Mendoza helped the Indiana Hoosiers go undefeated this season and helped secure the #2 ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll. Mendoza could also win the Heisman, depending on how he plays against the Buckeyes on Saturday.
Rodriguez, who is a senior linebacker, transferred to Texas Tech after one season in 2021 with theVirginia Cavaliers. He started his college career as a quarterback for Virginia. Rodriguez has 101 total tackles, 1 sack, 7 forced fumbles, 4 inceptions, and has 3 total touchdowns this season.
The Heisman Trophy is the most valuable and greatest award given to the best player in college football for every season. The trophy was first awarded in December 1935, presented to Jay Berwanger of the University of Chicago.
The trophy was renamed to the Heisman Trophy in 1936, the year after the first trophy was given to Berwanger, to honor John Heisman, college football player and coach.
The award is voted on by a committee to determine the winner. There are four players that the committee can vote on. The players score depending on their placement vote, and the player with the highest score wins the award.
I will be watching the Ohio State Buckeyes defeat the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, and then watch Sayin bring home the Heisman.
