Fall is upon us, and college football has officially started. Week one was filled with exciting games, and a handful of upsets.
College football is a common topic around the high school with students liking a variety of teams. Junior Stephen Murrin, who is quarterback of the varsity football team at Country Day, gave his opinion on the 2018 college football season as well as his favorite to win the College Football Championship. Despite Texas’ disappointing loss in their season opener against the University of Maryland, Murrin has high hopes for the rest of the season. Turner Symonds ‘18 signed to play football with UT this season. In his high school career Symonds had 38 solo tackles, 71 total tackles, and 7 interceptions. He will play DB at UT.
“I am excited for the college football season which we’ve all be waiting on for months. Texas is my favorite team and I believe this is the year they will win it all. In my opinion, Sam Ehlinger should be considered in the Heisman conversation,” Murrin ’20 said.
Here at Country Day there are many TCU fans who attend most of the games because TCU is so close. Currently TCU is ranked 16th in the AP poll, when asking Steffen Palko ‘20 and Sean Nolan ‘19 are both huge TCU fans with opposing views on TCU’s ranking.
I don’t think TCU should be ranked higher than they currently are, they haven’t had a statement game yet,” Palko ’20 said.
“TCU should be ranked number 1 because we are undefeated and yet to lose,” Nolan ’20 said.
Now that Kenny Hill is gone for TCU they are on search for a new quarterback. Gary Patterson has stated that Shawn Robinson will be the starting quarterback and will remain in that position until he proves otherwise. When getting Palko and Nolan’s opinion on this topic they once again had two totally different answers
“I think Shawn Robinson performed well in week one and hopefully he can keep up the good work throughout the season,” Palko said.
“Shawn Robinson is definitely a Heisman candidate for this year and the following years after that,” Nolan said.
Coming off of an action packed season in the SEC powerhouse, Georgia is looking to repeat this year. They lost some key players to the NFL including Nick Chubb, Sony Michele, and Isaiah Wynn.
“I am excited for this season. I think Bama will win the championship. I don’t think Georgia will be as good this year, without Nick Chubb and Sony Michel,” Avery Clinkscale ‘20 said.
