Images showcased in the Upper School

January and February were the 34th annual Black and White Images contest and exhibition at Fort Worth Country Day. The exhibition of 82 images will be in the Upper School Commons from January 31 until February 18. Forty-six images received awards, given out at the reception in the Upper School held on February 5. The competition included 494 images submitted from 16 different schools across the DFW metroplex.

For this competition, students could submit up to 60 images that range in subject matter across eight different categories.

“My favorite aspect of this event is seeing the actual prints come in from each school,” US Photography, Sil Azevedo, said. “A matted photographic print is a finished art piece that embodies the creator’s original intent and it is something special.”

Six FWCD students have pieces that were selected for the final exhibition. Students include Brooke Baldwin ‘24 and Vivian Todora ‘23 for Photo Essay; Kendall Lehman ‘22 for Portrait; Laura Marques ‘24 and Alexis Rollings ‘23 for Architecture; and Luke Tierce ‘24 for Nature.

The adjudicator for the exhibition was Ted Forbes, who is a photographer and filmmaker. He produced and directed a series on Amazon Video called the “Art Series.”

“I took pictures of my mom’s routine throughout the day,” Vivian Todora ‘23 said. “I tried to take more pictures of her doing work because I think it says more about her personality and the way she thinks.”

Their work is also posted on the Black and White Images Exhibition webpage linked below.
